An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a labourer, Thomas Agbeko, to 24 months’ imprisonment for stealing an unregistered Peugeot motorbike, valued at GH¢20,000, belonging to his neighbour.

Agbeko admitted breaking a GH¢1,000 lock on the warehouse, entering, and making away with the bike. The Court, presided over by Mrs Susana Eduful, sentenced him to 24 months’ imprisonment for unlawful entry, theft, and causing unlawful damage. The sentences will run concurrently.

Meanwhile, his alleged accomplice, Solomon, remains on the run.

Police Chief Inspector Ebenezer Teye-Okuffo, presenting the facts, said the complainant, Madam Betty Agyeman, is a trader and resident of Kanda-Accra, while Agbeko and Solomon are labourers who live nearby.

According to the prosecution, in August 2024, Madam Agyeman imported secondhand goods from Italy and engaged her houseboy and Agbeko to offload them into her warehouse. Agbeko was later tasked with weeding around the warehouse and asked to push an unregistered Peugeot motorbike with chassis number PJL000215J4892002 into the warehouse.

On August 10, 2025, at about 2:00 p.m., Agbeko informed a friend, a witness in the case, of his plan to steal the motorbike by cutting and joining the wires. A second witness, also a friend, discouraged him, warning that the police could arrest them.

However, on August 18, 2025, the complainant reported the theft of her motorbike. Agbeko was immediately suspected and subsequently arrested. He initially denied the offence but later admitted breaking into the warehouse and stealing the motorbike with Solomon, who remains at large.

Agbeko led the police to Agbogbloshie-Zongo Junction, claiming he had sent the motorbike to be sold, but he refused to reveal the exact person to whom he gave it. He was later charged and arraigned before the Court.
