The third National Vice Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Masawudu Osman, has allegedly been assaulted in Akwatia during the ongoing by-election.
Adom TV/FM’s Chief Jerry Forson, reporting from the constituency, said the incident occurred at the Akwatia Main Lorry Station, where two polling centres are located.
The cause of the confrontation remains unclear, but the alleged assailant is said to have ties to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka.
Confirming the incident to Adom News, Alhaji Osman said he has lodged a formal complaint with the Ghana Police Service and is awaiting action.
He cautioned against retaliation, noting that although both he and Azorka hail from Tamale and hold chieftaincy titles, peace must be maintained.
