The Medical and Dental Council (MDC) has disclosed that it is currently handling a growing number of complaints, investigations, and court cases involving medical practitioners across the country.
Between January and August 2025, the Council received 28 complaints:
1st Quarter – 9 cases
2nd Quarter – 10 cases
3rd Quarter – 9 cases
The MDC also reported ongoing disciplinary hearings.
“The Council disposed of 20 cases before the Disciplinary Committee last year. Currently, the Council has 18 cases involving 22 practitioners before the Disciplinary Committee,” the statement said.
On active investigations, the Council revealed that there are nine cases under review, with “seven under the Council’s internal investigative processes and two pending before police.”
Regarding legal proceedings, the MDC confirmed that, “There are a total of six cases pending before various courts: Circuit Court – four, High Court – two.”
The Council further highlighted its collaboration with the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), noting progress made in tackling malpractice.
“Three convictions [have been] secured so far. Two trials are currently ongoing. One in absentia,” it stated.
The MDC expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their support in ensuring effective regulation of the medical profession.
“The Council expresses its profound appreciation to the Ministry of Health, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), the Ministry of Interior and the Ghana Police Service, the Ministry of Justice and Attorney-General’s Department, the Judicial Service, and members of the public whose information and vigilance significantly enhance the Council’s regulatory activities,” the statement concluded.
