The fishing community of Vodza in the Keta Municipality of the Volta region has welcomed a new dawn of opportunity and safety following the extension of electricity to its landing beach, an initiative made possible through the Keta Investment Promotion Centre (KIPC), led by its Chief Executive, Madam Enyonam Apetorgbor.
For years, fishermen and processors operated in darkness, often risking their lives and investments while struggling with limited productivity.

The absence of light not only exposed them to theft and accidents but also restricted night-time fishing activities — a critical period for sustaining their livelihoods.
Today, with electricity finally connected, the atmosphere at the landing beach has changed.
Canoe owners, net operators, and fish processors say the development will help them work more efficiently, store their catch safely, and reduce losses.

Women who process fish expressed relief that they can now operate longer hours without fear, while community leaders pointed to the potential for small businesses to thrive around the beach.
“This is more than just light. It means security for our canoes, safety for our families, and a chance to earn better income,” said one local fisherman.

The Assembly Member for Vodza, together with the Chief Fisherman and leaders of the Ghana National Canoe Fishermen Council, described the move as a lifeline for the community and pledged to build on it by advocating for other critical amenities.
By channeling investment promotion into social needs, Madam Apetorgbor and the KIPC have demonstrated how development at the community level can directly improve livelihoods, restore dignity, and create a more secure environment for families who depend on fishing for survival
