Firefighters from the Mpraeso Fire Station on Thursday spent nearly six hours rescuing two men after their vehicle skidded off the Kwahu–Abetifi–Abene road and crashed into a deep ditch on Wednesday.
The rescue team, led by Station Officer II Sanusi Issah, arrived at the scene to find the driver trapped inside the mangled vehicle.
After hours of careful cutting and lifting, the team managed to free him from the wreckage.
Both the driver and another passenger were immediately handed over to paramedics from the National Ambulance Service and taken to the Atibie Government Hospital for medical care.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the crash was caused by a brake failure, which sent the vehicle off the road and into the ditch. The impact caused severe damage to the front of the car.
Officers from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), including Mr. Banahene, Emergency Medical Technician Mr. Brobbey, and other responders, assisted in managing the situation and clearing the area.
Authorities have since urged drivers to ensure regular maintenance of their vehicles and check their braking systems before long-distance journeys, especially along the hilly Kwahu routes where road conditions can be challenging.
