Former President of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, has arrived at the residence of the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, to commiserate with the Rawlings family.
Madam Sirleaf, Africa’s first elected female head of state, joined scores of dignitaries and mourners who continue to visit the Rawlings home to pay their respects following the passing of the former First Lady on October 23, 2025, at age 76.
The visit by the Nobel Peace Prize laureate underscores the deep personal and historical ties between Ghana and Liberia, as well as her longstanding friendship with the late Nana Konadu and former President Jerry John Rawlings.
The former First Lady is fondly remembered for her pioneering role in women’s empowerment through the 31st December Women’s Movement and her contributions to national development during her two decades as Ghana’s First Lady.
Tributes have been pouring in from across Africa and beyond, celebrating her life of service, activism, and dedication to gender equality. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days.

Earlier today, former President Nana Akufo‑Addo, his wife, and several former senior government officials, including the Chief of Staff and the Ministers for Defence, Interior, Transport and Lands, were among the dignitaries who gathered today to pay their respects.
In a show of national mourning and bipartisan respect, the former president and his spouse joined an array of political figures at the residence of the late Nana Konadu, where tributes were being paid.
The former President also signed the book of condolence in the company of his wife, Rebecca Akufo-Addo.
