The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects believed to be behind a violent robbery and carjacking incident that occurred at Mpatasie, near St Anthony Hospital, in the Ashanti Region.
In a statement released by the Police Service, the suspects have been identified as Issaka Jamal, aged 30, and Kwadwo Badu, aged 40.
They were apprehended on Saturday, November 8 after a dramatic chase along the Ofankor–St John’s stretch of the Accra–Nsawam Highway.

Police say the two attempted to flee but were subdued following a brief exchange, during which one sustained a gunshot wound and the other suffered minor injuries. Both are currently receiving treatment at the Police Hospital in Accra.
Preliminary investigations indicate that on November 7, the suspects and their accomplices attacked two occupants of an unregistered silver Hyundai Tucson (DV-5357-Z) at Mpatasie.

The assailants reportedly made away with GH¢120,000 in cash, three mobile phones, identity cards, work tools, and other personal effects, before escaping with the vehicle.
The CID’s follow-up operation led to the recovery of the stolen Hyundai Tucson, GH¢5,900 in cash, a customised number plate marked “Congo-1-24”, and other items believed to have been used in the crime. All recovered exhibits have been secured at the Police Headquarters as investigations continue.

Police officials have assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects and dismantle the criminal network involved.

In a reaffirmation of its stance on crime prevention, the Ghana Police Service stated that it remains committed to “intensifying intelligence-led operations” to ensure that all individuals connected to the robbery are arrested and brought to justice.
