Chief Justice nominee, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, has vowed to champion a justice system that protects the vulnerable and upholds accountability, pledging to restore public trust in Ghana’s judiciary if confirmed.
Appearing before the Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie stated that his vision is to establish a judicial system that ensures fairness, transparency, and equality before the law.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie pledged to work with Parliament and all stakeholders to strengthen the justice system and rebuild public confidence in its fairness and independence.
“My task, if confirmed, is to ensure that the law remains both a shield for the weak and a restraint upon the powerful,” he declared.
“If confirmed, I will stand with every judge, court user, and citizen in the belief that access to justice should not depend on who you are or your connections,” he added.
He emphasized that the office of the Chief Justice carries a responsibility far greater than presiding over cases — it demands the preservation of the judiciary’s integrity and the confidence of the Ghanaian people.
He further assured the Committee of his commitment to leaving the judiciary stronger and more trusted than he found it.
