More than 540 students at the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) have received training in employability skills, professional branding and entrepreneurship under a two-day Career Fair organised by the African Centre for Career Enhancement and Skills Support (ACCESS).
The event, held at the university’s New Auditorium and themed “Youth, Careers, and Entrepreneurship: Driving Innovation for Sustainable Development,” brought together faculty, industry professionals and HR experts to equip students for a rapidly shifting labour market.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Boateng, called on students to take workplace readiness seriously and to leverage skills development programmes to improve employment prospects.
Human resource expert Modesta Abbem, Deputy Director of HR at the Ghana Health Service, delivered the keynote on interview preparation and professional branding.
She highlighted first impressions, competence and integrity as decisive factors during recruitment.
Dr. Ralph Nyadu-Addo outlined the ACCESS project’s four pillars and encouraged students to participate in upcoming employability initiatives across partner universities.
Dr. Stella Agyenim Boateng, a resource person discussed generational work attitudes and advised Gen Z graduates to prioritise communication, confidence, discipline and teamwork in professional environments.
She later donated copies of her book to female presenters in the student pitching competition.
Speakers urged students to move from ideas to execution and to translate proposals into real business plans.
Students’ exhibitions featured clothing projects from the fashion department and culinary products including meals made from waakye flour by catering students.
A pitching competition formed the climax of the programme, with winners receiving cash awards for strong business concepts.
The ACCESS Project is supported by the German Academic Exchange Services (DAAD) and funded by the German Ministry of Economic Development and Cooperation (BMZ).
