A head-on collision at Mampong Abuontem on Thursday, December 4, 2025, claimed three lives and left 30 people injured, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed.
According to an official statement from the GNFS, 26 of the injured were treated and discharged, while four remain in critical condition at the Mampong Government Hospital.
The accident involved a Toyota Coaster minibus (GV 1720-20) from Ejura Agric College and an Opel Astra (AS 3838 W), which was completely mangled in the crash.

The Mampong Fire Station received the emergency alert at 17:38 hours, prompting a swift response from a rescue team led by LFM Emmanuel Kwami.
By the time the team arrived, all injured occupants—including 26 students, three staff members, and the minibus driver—had already been transported by ambulance.
Tragically, two additional occupants of the Opel Astra later died after rescue, and the driver was extricated deceased at the scene and handed over to the police.

Eyewitnesses reported that the Opel Astra lost control while navigating a curve, crossing into the path of the oncoming minibus, resulting in the catastrophic head-on collision.
The GNFS confirmed that debris was cleared promptly to restore the smooth flow of traffic. Motorists are being urged to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, avoid overtaking on curves, and adhere strictly to road safety regulations to prevent similar tragedies.
A spokesperson for the GNFS described the incident as a “tragic reminder of the importance of careful driving and proper vehicle maintenance, particularly on busy and curved stretches of road.”
