Nations FC returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Heart of Lions at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex on Saturday, ending their recent slump in dramatic fashion.
The hosts, who came into the fixture on the back of four defeats in five league outings, were made to work for the points after falling behind early.
Heart of Lions forward Chauncy Freeman opened the scoring in the 30th minute, finishing brilliantly to put the visitors ahead and underline their impressive form this season.
Nations FC responded before the break, finding an equaliser to send the game into half-time level at 1-1.
The second half developed into a tense and finely balanced contest, with both sides creating chances but failing to make them count as time ticked away.
Just when it seemed the points would be shared, Nations FC struck late.
Prince Badu produced the decisive moment in the 85th minute, slotting home to complete the comeback and send the home supporters into celebration.
The victory preserves Nations FC’s unbeaten home record this season and offers a welcome boost after recent frustrations.
They had suffered a late 1-0 defeat to Basake Holy Stars last weekend, raising questions over consistency, but Saturday’s result keeps them steady in mid-table with renewed confidence.
Heart of Lions, who arrived in Abrankese unbeaten in their previous five matches and sitting second on the table, showed flashes of their attacking quality but ultimately left empty-handed despite Freeman’s fine opener.
Both teams had won one apiece in their previous two league meetings at Abrankese, and this latest encounter lived up to expectations, competitive, tight, and decided by a late moment of quality.
With stability restored, Nations FC will now look to build on this momentum, while Heart of Lions will aim to quickly regroup as they continue their push near the top of the table.
