A major burst on a 42-inch transmission pipeline has disrupted water supply to large parts of Eastern Accra and the Tema Metropolis, Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced.
The incident occurred on Monday, January 19, 2026, and has resulted in significant interruptions to water supply in several communities along the affected corridor.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, January 20, GWL said its engineers and technical teams were immediately deployed and are working around the clock to repair the damaged pipeline.
According to the utility provider, the scale of the transmission main and the complexity of the fault require careful handling to ensure safety, durability and efficiency, which may affect the speed of restoration.
GWL, however, assured customers that every effort is being made to complete the repairs as quickly as possible and restore normal water supply.
Areas affected by the disruption include the entire Tema Metropolis and several parts of Accra, notably Ashaiman, Gbetsele, Katamanso, Klagon, Lashibi, Baatsonaa, Spintex, parts of East Legon, Nungua, Teshie and surrounding communities.
GWL has advised essential service providers, particularly schools and hospitals, to contact the company for assistance during the period of disruption through its toll-free line on Telecel networks (0800 40000), phone lines, WhatsApp numbers and official social media platforms.
The company apologised for the inconvenience caused and appealed for patience from customers, assuring that water supply would be restored immediately after the repair works are completed.
It added that further updates would be provided as work progresses.
