Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, paid a working visit to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources as part of efforts to enhance the accessibility of the Presidency to all.
In her remarks, she stated that the January 27 visit was one of numerous visits to various ministries, emphasizing that its purpose was to assess performance and foster coordination between her office and the ministry.
The Sector Minister, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, briefed the Vice President on the Ministry’s mandate, the agencies under its purview, and the challenges he inherited as Minister.
In addressing steps taken by the Ministry to tackle the inherited challenges, the Minister discussed plans to modernize and revive VALCO.

The Minister revealed that plans are underway to revive VALCO and ensure it provides maximum benefits to Ghanaians, reiterating VALCO’s potential as a pillar in driving Ghana’s industrialization. He said, “VALCO is a quiet lion that can change our country. We have big plans for its revival.”
The Minister’s statement comes weeks after a 12-member inter-ministerial committee, inaugurated in November 2025 to identify a strategic investor for VALCO, submitted its report to the Minister.
The modernization of VALCO is a key component of GIADEC’s strategy to establish a fully integrated aluminum industry in Ghana, aligning with national industrial transformation objectives.
The project is anticipated to revitalize VALCO, enhance its annual production capacity, safeguard existing employment, and generate thousands of new direct and indirect job opportunities for Ghanaians, thereby restoring VALCO’s prominence and contributing to Ghana’s long-term economic prosperity.
