The Minister of Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has hailed the National Rental Assistance Scheme as a major success since its launch in 2023.
He revealed that the programme has assisted more than 4,732 Ghanaians while maintaining an impressive 99 per cent recovery rate.
Speaking during the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, January 28, Mr Adjei said the initiative is helping to ease housing pressures for beneficiaries while ensuring government resources are efficiently utilised.
The scheme, which provides rent advances to eligible Ghanaians, is currently being piloted in six regions: Greater Accra, Bono East, Northern, Eastern, Western and Ashanti. In 2025 alone, 2,031 individuals benefited from the programme, bringing the cumulative total since its inception to 4,732.
“At its inception, the scheme received GH₵27 million in seed funding. Over time, both principal and interest have rolled over, resulting in GH₵71.7 million now available—demonstrating the scheme’s financial sustainability,” he noted.
Mr Adjei highlighted that the near-perfect recovery rate underscores the effectiveness of the programme and positions it for expansion.
“The eligibility criteria, application process, and beneficiaries’ success stories confirm its impact on addressing housing needs. The government is preparing to scale the scheme nationwide across all 16 regions in the short to medium term,” he added.
