In a powerful display of political sportsmanship and commitment to party unity, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has formally conceded defeat in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary.
Speaking from the party's national headquarters on Saturday, January 31, 2026, the firebrand politician called on his legion of supporters to "stay calm" and throw their full weight behind the flagbearer-elect, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Despite a hard-fought campaign that saw him secure significant grassroots support, Mr. Agyapong emphasised that the supreme interest of the elephant party must now take precedence over individual ambitions.
Addressing a packed crowd of party faithful, including former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP's top brass, Mr. Agyapong acknowledged the finality of the results declared by the Electoral Commission (EC).
“I stand before you to pledge my support [and] also to accept the results declared by EC. The delegates have spoken and I want to plead with my supporters that they should stay calm and respect the results and help all of us to work together to win 2029 or 2028 election,” he stated firmly.
He reminded his supporters that the nature of democracy involves both victory and loss, urging them to accept the outcome with grace. “I want to thank you, but advise that in an election, you can win and you can lose. So if you lose, you have to accept it in good faith,” he added.
The former MP stressed that the path to retaining power in the next general election is only possible through a genuinely united front. He officially endorsed the Vice President as the man to lead that charge.
“So let all of us throw our support to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer... we need unity in the party, but unity comes with respect. We have to respect each other's views. That is all I want to say tonight. So congratulations to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and NPP. Thank you,” Mr Agyapong concluded.
