The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 42-year-old man in connection with the robbery and murder of a police officer at Zebilla in the Upper East Region on February 8, 2026.
The suspect, Simon Apusiga, alias Ananga, was apprehended on February 10, 2026, following an intelligence-led operation at his hideout in the Tarkwa Huni Valley area.
A special team deployed by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, tracked down and arrested the suspect after he had fled the crime scene.
According to a press release issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday, February 14, 2026, preliminary investigations indicate that Apusiga fled Zebilla shortly after the incident and was traced to the Western Region.
The swift police response involved tracking the suspect across multiple regions, demonstrating coordinated efforts between police units in the Upper East and Western Regions.
The CID statement, signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the department, confirmed that the suspect is currently in police custody and assisting with investigations.
"The suspect is currently in police custody, assisting investigations, and will be put before the court to face the full rigours of the law while efforts have been intensified to arrest other suspects involved," the statement said.
Police have indicated that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other suspects believed to be involved in the crime.
