The District Magistrate Court One in Tarkwa has sentenced Kingsford Kwame Boadu, a miner, aged 22, to six months imprisonment in hard labour for swindling a businesswoman.
He was convicted for defrauding by false pretense.
The Prosecutor, Police Sergeant Douglas Addae, told the court that the complainant, Harriet Clement, was a businesswoman based in Tarkwa.
He said that in July 2025, the complainant was at home when Boadu and Papa Yaw, now on the run, arrived with gold and said they wanted to sell it to her.
According to Sergeant Addae, the complainant expressed interest and asked for the price; the price quoted was GH¢3,700.
The complainant handed the money to Boadu, who gave her the gold. Days later, her husband, Kobby Danquah, wanted to sell the gold, but a gold dealer said it was fake.
Prosecution said the complainant and her husband searched for the convict, came across him in Tarkwa town on August 12, 2025, and they had him arrested.
He said when the police questioned Boadu, he owned up to the crime, and named Papa Yaw as his accomplice, but could not assist the police to apprehend him.
