An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail to Derrick Larbi Nmetteh, a labourer accused of stealing electrical cables, PVC pipes, and breakers worth GH¢28,320 from a construction site at Teshie.
Nmetteh, who faces charges of unlawful entry, stealing, and causing damage, pleaded not guilty.
The Court set his bail at GH¢50,000 with two sureties, one of whom must be a close family member, while the other must be justified.
The decision came after his counsel requested bail, though the prosecution opposed it.
The Court has instructed the prosecution to file disclosures and adjourned the case to March 30, 2026.
According to the prosecution, the complainant, Michael Abban Wealth, is the project manager and caretaker of the uncompleted building at Teshie, which belongs to a person based in the United States.
Nmetteh, a resident of Teshie, allegedly stole the materials from the site.
On January 2, 2026, the complainant discovered the theft during a site visit.
On January 11, 2026, a witness saw Nmetteh at the site and questioned him.
Nmetteh fled the scene but was arrested on January 17, 2026.
Investigations revealed that Nmetteh entered the building through a sliding window, damaged cables and other materials, and stole the items.
He was initially granted police enquiry bail to report on January 20, 2026, but failed to do so, leading to his re-arrest.
