Ranking member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has accused the Ministry for the Interior of profiting over GH¢100 million from Ghanaian youth in the security service recruitment exercise.

This comes after the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, revealed that although about 105,000 young people have successfully qualified for the medical stage of the ongoing recruitment into Ghana’s security services, only 5,000 positions are currently available.

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story on Wednesday, March 11, Rev. Fordjour said the recruitment process, which saw about 105,000 applicants qualify for the medical stage but has only 5,000 available positions, amounts to a "massive scam".

“This is the biggest recruitment scam,” he stated, explaining that instead of being transparent about the limited slots, the ministry increased the age limit to 35, a move he said was politically motivated.

According to Rev. Fordjour, over 500,000 youth applied, each paying a fee of GH¢200, while only 5,000 positions exist.

“You have milked over GH¢100 million into the ministry’s coffers when you know very well that only 5,000 spaces exist. That in itself is fraudulent,” he said.

The MP warned that the ministry is now forced to create artificial barriers to screen out most applicants, leaving thousands of young people frustrated.

“It is not just NPP supporters who are angry. NDC foot soldiers are angry, and even non-politically affiliated youth are outraged. All 500,000 applicants are being unfairly squeezed,” he said.

Rev. Fordjour demanded immediate refunds of all application fees to the youth. He added that only after refunds are made can the Ministry proceed to select candidates for the available positions and collect fees legitimately from successful applicants.

“This is a matter of accountability and fairness. The Ministry of Interior must take responsibility for misleading the youth and ensure transparency in this recruitment exercise,” he noted.
