Lady Captain of the Tema Ladies Golf Club, Helen Appah, says the newly introduced Tema Ladies Open Golf Tournament is aimed at attracting female golfers from across the world while helping to revive women’s golf at the club.
Speaking to JoySports during the maiden edition of the tournament at the Centre of the World Golf Club in Tema, Appah explained that the initiative forms part of efforts to strengthen the ladies’ section and encourage greater participation among professional and young female golfers.
According to her, the competition is expected to create opportunities for female golfers to compete at a higher level while also inspiring the next generation of players.
“It’s a tournament that should attract ladies and golfers worldwide and here at Tema we’re trying to revamp the ladies’ section, especially professional ladies golfers, so we really want to raise awareness for the younger golfers by participating in this tournament,” she said.

Appah also highlighted the health benefits of the sport, noting that golf provides a unique way for players to stay physically active.
“Golf is one of the best sports to use to work out. The good thing about golf is the aspect of walking,” she added.
The Tema Ladies Open brings together professional and amateur golfers, as organisers hope the competition will grow into a major event on the regional women’s golf calendar.
