Tilly Akua Nipaa, Head of Public Relations for music distribution company Crux Global, has reiterated her stance on a comment she made about Stonebwoy last year.
Speaking on Hitz FM’s morning show Daybreak Hitz with Kwame Dadzie, she said she remains unfazed by criticism and still stands by her initial opinion.
“Is there a rule in the TGMA that says if an artiste wins [in a particular year] he has to come back and win again the following year?,” she asked.
“I made the retrogression statement and as I said, I still stand by it solidly now because I compared it in a certain context and she [Vida] was no able to defend it because she knew O was right. The only issue was that all the jabs she threw at King Promise didn’t go as viral as my retrogression comment,” she said.
Her comments follow a debate last year, during which she was executing PR and promotional duties for King Promise ahead of the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards. At a debate organised by DJ Slim, she argued that when comparing Stonebwoy’s previous album to his current one, he had not made progress.
The statement did not go down well with Vida Adutwumwaa Boateng, Head of Communications for Stonebwoy’s Burniton Music Group. The two later engaged in a public back-and-forth, and the issue appears to persist.
Tilly has explained, however, that her comment about the retrogression was with regards to Stonebwoy's two albums in the specific time frame and not about his entire music career.
After the release of the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards nominations, which saw Stonebwoy earn a nod in the Artiste of the Year category while King Promise missed out, Vida wrote, “Retrogression? Sia, if ebe easy do am. #malnourishedanalysis.”
Tilly Akua Nipaa also dismissed claims in a circulating news card that King Promise only gave her Kivo Gari after her PR work and failed to sponsor her master’s programme as promised. According to Tilly, she suspects the fake news card was produced by Lasmid Boy, a social media account that usually posts in favour of Stonebwoy.
In the meantime, Stonebwoy has earned eight nominations at the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards, while King Promise has two nominations.
