Morocco says its reinforced partnership with France has entered a new phase of full implementation, with both countries seeking to deepen cooperation across strategic sectors.

Morocco’s Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, made the announcement on Thursday in Rabat during a joint press briefing with French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu after the 15th Morocco-France High-Level Meeting.

He said the partnership, envisioned by Morocco’s King Mohammed VI and French President Emmanuel Macron, now goes beyond historical relations and reflects a shared strategic vision between the two countries.

“This partnership is no longer based solely on deep historical ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the French Republic; it also forms part of a shared strategic vision, founded on a clear political convergence, renewed trust, and a common ambition to work together to promote solutions to major challenges of our time,” Akhannouch stated.

He said the progress recorded since President Macron’s state visit to Morocco in October 2024 demonstrates the strength of the renewed relationship.

According to him, more than 40 high-level visits and meetings have taken place in less than two years, bringing together governments, institutions, local authorities, businesses, universities and civil society groups.

“Even today, having 22 Moroccan and French ministers in attendance illustrates an exceptional Meeting and a shared commitment of our two governments,” he said.

Mr Akhannouch said the political cooperation between the two countries has been matched by economic commitments, pointing to agreements signed during President Macron’s 2024 visit.

He noted that the agreements concluded during the latest meeting build on 22 strategic agreements worth nearly €10 billion signed in the presence of King Mohammed VI and President Macron.

The Moroccan Head of Government said the latest agreements demonstrate a commitment to sustainable economic transformation.

The 11 new agreements and cooperation instruments adopted during the 15th High-Level Meeting cover key areas including health, transportation, civil aviation, decentralised cooperation, education, the Arabic language and other strategic sectors.

“They cover such essential areas as health, transportation, civil aviation, decentralised cooperation, education, the Arabic language, and several strategic sectors set to further strengthen our two complementary economies,” he explained.

Akhannouch also said political dialogue between Morocco and France has reached an unprecedented level, supported by renewed trust and closer alignment on regional and international issues.

“It is now based on renewed trust and a growing convergence of views on key regional and international issues,” he said.

He added that Morocco would continue implementing the partnership in line with the directives of King Mohammed VI.

“In accordance with the High Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Kingdom will resolutely continue to implement the Reinforced Exceptional Partnership,” Akhannouch said.

He explained that strengthened monitoring mechanisms, including joint commissions, working groups and sectoral committees, would help ensure that commitments are fulfilled, projects are accelerated, and new areas of cooperation are identified.
