A former Youth Organiser of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), James Kwabena Bomfeh says the response of Mahama Ayariga to questions concerning Black Stars performance and issues arising after the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Equatorial Guinea makes him unfit for any ministerial position in the country.
Following another reshuffle in which the Sports Minister has now been moved to head the Environment and Science Ministry, Bomfeh is disappointed that the Bawku MP is still in Government.
As a minister, his mandate to serve the people who appointed him has been flawed by his unruly attitude and the President should have booted him out of governance, Bomfeh said.
He opined that although the President has the constitutional right to hire and fire those who work with him, it is also very important that he puts in place guidelines that will assist them in making meaningful contributions to the development of the Nation.
In his view, the constant ministerial reshuffles will be meaningless unless there is a policy direction to guide the conduct of the ministers.
The unavailability of a policy direction makes the removal of ministers from one ministry to another insignificant, the youth activist said on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Monday.
President Mahama made changes to his government over the weekend, changes which saw former Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga being kicked out of the Sports Ministry to the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation.
He was replaced by Minister of State at the Presidency, Alhaji Dr. Mustapha Ahmed, who is also a Member of Parliament.
Other reshuffled ministers announced include Health Minister Dr. Kwaku Agyeman Mensah who has been moved to the Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing.
Mr Akwasi Oppong-Fosu has also been assigned to the Presidency as a Minister of State.
The President has also reassigned the Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing, Alhaji Collins Dauda to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
The reshuffle has provoked heavy criticism from sections of the public.
James Kwabena Bomfeh believes the President should not have reassigned the former Sports Minister because of his poor attitude.
