Indigenous entrepreneur and pharmacist Ernest Bediako Sarpong says owners of local businesses should learn to plough back their profits in order to expand their operations.
He has identified complacency as a setback, saying too many successful business owners tend to spend their profits on ostentatious life styles instead of using it to grow their businesses.
Mr. Bediako Sarpong who is the Chief Executive of pharmaceutical company Ernest Chemists was contributing to a discussion on the Supper Morning Show on how Ghanaian businesses can match up to their counterparts elsewhere.
“Whatever comes in, we should plough the bulk of it back into the business; I actually did that,” he told Joy FM’s Evans Mensah.
The Ernest Chemist boss does not rule out the role of government in supporting the growth of indigenous businesses.
He actually advocates some protection for these firms besides the creation of an enabling environment.
However two corporate awards held over the weekend showed clearly that some indigenous firms were matching their international counterparts boot for boot.
The likes of UT Financial Services, Vanguard Assurance, Cal Bank and Kasapreko have shown consistency in these awards.
