Mobile phone users are demanding quality service delivery following reports of excessive profits by telecom operators. According to the industry regulator, National Communication Authority, MTN, the leading mobile telephone company as at April, 2009, makes a monthly profit of $8.00 per subscriber, and with its 6.8 million subscribers, the network makes a monthly revenue of $54 million or GH¢81 million. Tigo on the other hand makes GH¢23 million per month from its 2.9 million subscribers. Vodafone makes GH¢ 12 million and Zain makes a little over GH¢4 million. Even though the data by the NCA did not include the cost of operation, subscribers say they have been shortchanged by the operators and have called for better service delivery. Sector Minister, Haruna Iddrisu in an earlier interview was unhappy with the quality of service provided by the operators but said the NCA has procured a spectrum and quality of service monitoring device to improve upon service delivery.
