For the first time in many years, residents of Wa, the Upper West Regional capital celebrated an incident-free Christmas between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.While there were no recorded cases of assault, stealing and motor accidents, there were also no cases of livestock thefts, which had characterized festivities in the Region over the years.Police Inspector Ebenezer Tetteh, Regional Police Public Affairs Officer, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Wa on Tuesday, attributed the positive trend to constant pre-Christmas educational programmes carried out by the Police Command and other collaborators. He said besides the educational programmes, he had also observed that most people were now drinking more responsibly on festive days, which had helped to change their negative behaviours.Inspector Tetteh appealed to the local Road Safety Committee to intensify its educational programmes so that the New Year and Eid Fitr celebrations would be devoid of negative incidents."I will also like to appeal to the media, especially the radio stations to continue educating our people to avoid tendencies that could lead to fighting, accidents and other negative activities in the Region".Inspector S. Frimpong, Wa Station Officer, said apart from drunk driving, driving beyond speed limits and overloading could also lead to road accidents and appealed to drivers to avoid all the trappings that were likely to cause accidents.Source GNA
