Kwame Adufoh, a farmer of Breman Nwomaso, near Breman Asikuma, has been sentenced to a total of 27 months’ imprisonment for beating up his mother and breaking a bond he signed.
Adufoh who pleaded guilty to breach of bond and assault would serve 18 months for the assault and nine months for breaking the bond. The terms are to run consecutively.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Gershon Kwame Awuyeh told the Breman Asikuma Magistrate’s Court presided over by Mr Akwasi Asmah Asiedu that in June 2006 Adufoh was bonded to be of good behaviour for 12 months for assaulting Madam Akua Acota, his 60-year-old mother. However, late in November 2006 he again beat up the mother.
Chief Inspector Awuyeh told the Court that on November 28, 2006 Adufoh returned from the farm totally drunk. He demanded his meal and his mother gave him fufu.
Mr Awuyeh said Adufoh ate the fish on the food and left. By the time he retuned to continue to eat the food, someone else had eaten it. Adufoh became offended, slapped the mother, booted her and hit her with a block.
The mother was sent to Our Lady of Grace Hospital at Breman Asikuma, where she was treated and discharged.
