The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly has taken over the management of public toilets in the area. By this move, the assembly is hopeful frequent clashes over the ownership of public places of convenience in the metropolis will be minimized. The twin city has in recent times made the headlines following reports of seizures of toilets by sympathisers of the ruling party. In Takoradi for example, reports suggested that there was a near pandemonium when sympathizers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ganged up to reclaim some of the toilets seized by supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joy News’ Seth Kwame Boateng reported. The area is just one in a long list of places around the country where there have been clashes between supporters of the two main parties over the ownership of toilets. Chief Executive for the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, Kobina Prah Annan, told Joy News the assembly has put in place adequate measures to ensure the move is sustained. “I can assure you that no other person has the right to run the toilet unless we assign the toilet to an individual or a group. No group has any legal right to claim that it has the right to run the toilet,” Mr Annan stressed. “We are putting place our unit committee.
