President J.E.A Mills has directed the Ministry of Youth and Sports to expedite actions on the National Youth policy and present it to Cabinet for deliberations. Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Communications announced this on Tuesday in Accra, adding that a special cabinet session would be organized on job creation to find solutions to the perennial youth unemployment in the country. The minister revealed this during a mock parliamentary debate organized by the Public Affairs unit of Parliament to commemorate the International Democracy day in Accra. The programme which attracted about 100 students from some tertiary institutions in Accra deliberated on issues like conflicts and conflict resolution, political intolerance and disagreements among political opponents. The Minister said the youth policy document has been snubbed for long and gave the assurance that the ruling government would deliberate and implement it as soon as it is presented to Cabinet. Mr. Iddrisu expressed regret that almost 20 years into grassroots democracy, political parties still suffer from internal wrangling and appealed to their leaders to resolve all their domestic challenges in order to entrench the rule of law and democracy in the country. Mr. Inusah Fuseini, Member of Parliament for Tamale Central said arguments advanced by Members on the floor of Parliament are meant for development of the country and not political positions as perceived by some people outside parliament. “We argue, we make noise and disagree, but we do not fight. What we ultimately want to do is to come out with well refined laws that will stand the test of time in the country”, he added.Source: GNA
