President John Evans Atta Mills has challenged Ghanaians across the country to rise up and build on the foundation left behind by Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.Eulogizing Dr. Nkrumah, he enumerated some unprecedented traits of Dr Nkrumah and declared that 21st of September each year shall be known and called the Founder’s Day, “a day to build on the legacy of Dr Kwame Nkrumah”.“Kwame Nkrumah built Ghana; it is our time to build a Better Ghana,” president Mills said in a live broadcast Monday to commemorate the centenary celebrations of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s birthday. He therefore charged Ghanaians to “arise and shine”.President Mills admitted that even though the road to a better Ghana would be tough at the onset, with dedication and a spirit of commitment, Ghanaians would be able to build the Ghana they desire.“The beginning may be rough but I know that just as the Great Osagyefo gave life to his dreams, we can also give life to our Better Ghana dream.”He further stated: “Fellow Ghanaians, my brothers and sisters, sons and daughters of the land, there are rays of hope flickering through the skies, and I know and believe that together, and with the right attitude that makes us unite behind the things that unite rather than divide us, we will build a Better Ghana.”President Mills turned his attention on the youth and charged them: “The future belongs to you. Take control of your destiny and anchor yourselves to the virtues of life knowing that it shall profit you nothing if you gain the whole world and lose your soul.”He therefore admonished the youth that “There are no shortcuts to success. Hard work is what will bring you genuine success.’Story by Isaac Essel/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
