A mining accident at Gbani mining community in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region has claimed three lives, police say.
The miners are said to have inhaled toxic gases from explosives used in the minerals prospecting activity.
Upper East Region Correspondent, Albert Sore, told Joy News Friday police have commenced investigations into the tragedy.
He reports that at least ten people were trapped in the mining pit where the poisonous gas entered - although this number is yet to be confirmed by authorities.
Reports also indicate that about eight other miners who were in the pit have sustained various injuries and have been rushed to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the regional hospital for autopsy.
