The Police administration has vowed to weed out all miscreants in the service whose unprofessional conduct cast the police service in a bad light.
According to the Director of Police Public Relations, DSP Kwesi Ofori the service will not “cover up” for any personnel who find himself on the wrong side of the law.
He was speaking to Joy News’ Evans Mensah on the extent of investigations on the death of a car dealer said to have been shot by police officials.
Kwesi Baah, 21, was shot dead on Monday after he refused an order from the police to stop. He was chased and grounded at the City Light Junction, Kokomlemle, Accra where witnesses say he was shot from a distance, after he had surrendered.
Family of the deceased has petitioned the police administration to conduct thorough investigations into the death of their son and bring the perpetrators to justice.
DSP Ofori said the IGP has instructed the Director General CID to commence investigations into the shooting incident.
He appealed to general public with any information on the incident to make it available to facilitate investigations.
He reiterated the police’s statutory responsibility to protect lives and property and cautioned personnel to operate within the confines of the law.
Meanwhile, government has paid a visit to the deceased family to offer their condolences.
Deputy Information Minister, James Agyanim Boateng said the government feels saddened by the unfortunate development and assured thorough investigations will be done to bring perpetrators to book.
