The nation’s biggest broadcaster and state sponsored Ghana Television [GTV] on Thursday denied its numerous viewers the chance to watch the President of the Republic, Prof. John Evans Atta-Mills deliver his maiden address to the UN General Assembly.
GTV which had carried an advert initially in the morning of Thursday that it was to air the address live could not telecast the event and offered no explanation to viewers.
When Asempa Today made contact with Deputy Information Minister, Samuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa, he indicated that the state broadcaster will have some questions to answer as to why they could not telecast the event live.
Several calls made to GBC and for that matter GTV, proved futile as managers were tight lipped.
Meanwhile Dominic Kissi-Yeboah, Asempa News’ correspondent traveling with the President, reports that the President called on the world body to check the sporadic conflicts bedeviling the African continent.
The president also pledged the total support of Ghana towards United Nations peacekeeping engagements. Prof Mills also touched on issues of globalization and its attendant effects on Africa, the global financial crises and Climate Change.
Correspondent Kissi-Yeboah also reported that the President was billed to meet the American Business Community and Members of the Ghanaian Community later in the day at the Marriots Hotel where he is lodging.
President Mills is expected to depart the United States for Venezuela to attend the South America-Africa Summit.
