The Steering Committee of the New Patriotic Party says it will strictly enforce the party’s regulations in the vetting of parliamentary aspirants.
The opposition party has begun the process of vetting persons contesting its parliamentary primaries slated for next month.
But ahead of this process there has been a seeming tension in the party following a decision by some of its national executives to organize a steering committee meeting without the party Chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong.
First vice chair of the party, Freddy Blay told Joy News after the meeting: “Very interesting and good decision has been taken for and on behalf of the party…there is the need to have this meeting so that the few things that we think need to be done in addition to what have been put in place will be done.”
A statement issued by the party and signed by its National Organiser, John Boadu stated, “The Steering Committee calls upon the vetting committees to ensure that the qualification, eligibility and competence of aspirants, especially in respect of article 94 (1), (2), (3) of the National Constitution, as well as Articles 3 and 11 of the Party’s Constitution are duly observed and satisfied.”
The meeting also took some “critical decisions” which included assigning national officers to the various regions to be responsible for the overall conduct of the vetting process and any challenges that may emanate in the regions:
Mr. John Boadu (National Organizer) - Central Region
Mr. Sammy Awuku (National Youth Organiser) - Eastern Region
Mr. Kamal Deen Abdulai (National Nasara Coordinator) - Upper East Region
Mr. Nuhu Mahama (Deputy National Organizer) - Upper West Region
Ms. Otiko Djaba (National Women’s Organizer) - Northern Region
Mr. Abankwaah Yeboah (National Treasurer) - Greater Accra
Mr. Freedie Blay (National 1st Vice Chairperson) - Western Region
Mr. Daniel Denteh – Volta Region
Mr. F.F Antoh (National 3rd Vice Chairperson) – Ashanti Region
Mr. Obiri Boahene (National Deputy General Secretary) - Brong Ahafo
