Mayor of Accra, Mr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, has advised wood and yam sellers at the Timber Market in Accra to get ready to relocate.
Mr Vanderpuije gave this advice when he led a delegation to sympathize with victims of a fire outbreak at the market last Sunday.
He stated that within the next two months, leaders of the traders at the market would be invited for discussions on the relocation of the Wood sellers to a site near Amasaman and the Yam sellers to Ngleshie Amanfro Market Complex both in the Ga West District.
The delegation included Mr Jonathan Nii Tackie Komme, Member of Parliament for Odododiodioo, Mr Daniel Nii Okai and Mr Joseph Otoo, Constituency Chairman and Secretary respectively.
Others are Mr Dromo Tackie Yarboi, Accra Metropolitan Director of Finance and Mr Henry Nii Lante Plange, Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).
Mr. Vanderpuije said the visit was to inspect the extent of damage and assess the needs of victims for the supply of temporary disaster relief items.
Mr Tackie Komme expressed government's sympathy to victims and assured them of support through NADMO.
He cautioned them to be extra careful in handling fire to avoid such disasters.
Mr Plange said the cause of the fire that engulfed about 120 stores and has affected about 300 people was not known but stated that no causality was recorded.
Mr Okai, also a member of the AMA at the head of a delegation of the National Democratic Congress and some opinion leaders, also visited the victims on Monday and advised them to be careful when handling fire.
He said NADMO would visit them to assess their needs for the distribution of relief items.
