In the last two years alone 38 patients have had their legs amputated at the Effiankwanta regional hospital in Takoradi because of diabetes related complications.
Ignorance of the disease in Ghana has resulted in several deaths and a situation where children with diabetes are sent to prayer centers for deliverance.
And with the National Health Insurance withdrawing coverage of the disease, the situation is said to be worsening. JoyNews’ Kwaku Owusu Peprah has been speaking to some patients for the documentary “My Life with Needles”.
