The 2006 GJA Journalist of the Year and Ghana’s foremost investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, will go back to his roots when he delivers a lecture at the Ghana Institute of Journalism on Friday October 16, 2009. The day marks exactly fifty years of the establishment of the Ghana Institute of Journalism and as part of activities marking the day, there will be an official presentation of the Charter to the Institute, which will make the Institute autonomous and a fully-fledged tertiary institution. But before the presentation of the charter, the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Ghana Institute of Journalism has contacted Anas Aremeyaw Anas to share with students his motivation and experience in investigative journalism. The lecture is aimed at equipping students with the necessary information required to enable commit themselves to venturing into undercover investigative journalism, and the dangers involved. The SRC President, Manasseh Azure Awuni, says students of the Institute are very eager to welcome Anas, a proud product of GIJ, on that special day and the spacious upper lecture Room of the Institute where the lecture takes place will surely be packed to capacity. He is of the view that such interactions with respectable media practitioners will not only expose students to the realities on the field of journalism but also inspire them to aim high and raise the standard of journalism in the country to new levels. “GIJ is a professional institution and what we learn here has a direct bearing on output on the job market so this SRC will liaise with Anas and others to minimize the beach parties and instead organize more of lectures, seminars and other educative programmes,” he said.
