There has been a reduction in crime cases across the country, especially armed robbery, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Police Service has said.
The CID said regional distribution of reported armed robbery cases declined significantly in the Greater Accra, Eastern, Ashanti and Volta regions in the past three months.
The department says no cases were recorded in the Western, Northern and the Upper West and East Regions.
Director of Police Public Relations, DSP Kwesi Ofori, attributed the decline in reported crime cases to a strategic patrol system supported by the Military.
He said the change in strategy has led to the arrest of 212 armed robbery suspects since January this year.
DSP Kwesi Ofori said the patrol teams have been constituted into blocks in the district, divisional and regional outfits to deal with peculiar crimes in their area of jurisdiction and this he says has been productive.
He says the police will rigorously crackdown on criminal elements and urged the public to continuously assist with information.
Reward for tip-off
DSP Kwesi Ofori also said the reward system instituted by the service has been helpful in combating crime in the country.
By this, any individual who gives a tip-off to the police that leads to the arrest of a criminal is given a special reward.
“A lot of people volunteer information to the police and looking at the rate at which we get useful information it may go a long way to fight criminal activities and criminal elements in our society,” he told Joy News’ Benard Saibu.
He said the service has paid over GH¢50,000 to persons who have volunteered leads to criminals in the country.
