Cabinet has given approval to the Savanna Accelerated Development authority (SADA) document, a source at the Castle has disclosed.
The document, prepared by a panel of experts in collaboration with the Northern-based Institute for Policy Alternatives and the Centre for Policy Analysis, outlines the vision of SADA.
John Abdulai Jinapor, Spokesperson for the Vice-President, speaking to the Times, yesterday said the document would be outdoored at a news conference in Accra on Thursday during which its highlights would be made public.
The SADA seeks to address the social and the cultural dimensions of development and wealth creation, especially from small holder farmers in the three Northern regions as well as northern Brong-Ahafo and northern Volta.
It is also to bring about synergies in infrastructure development through improved roads, rail, water and air transport, in a manner that integrates the savannah economy with the southern Ghana forests economy and the Sahelian markets to the north.
SADA will in addition build a robust private sector in the Savana Zone while actively promoting international private capital investment and joint ventures. It will invest in a sustainable climate-change management, including water resources development, drainage and flood control.
Poverty in Ghana is concentrated in the rural areas and in particular the rural savannah ecological belt, which covers the three northern regions, Upper West, Upper East, and Northern regions.
The poor in Ghana, therefore, continue to the concentrated in the three regions.
