Former President Jerry Rawlings has expressed shock at the death of over 18 people including school children on the Volta Lake on their way from Wusuta after attending a colleague’s funeral. This tragedy the former president indicated, should be a wake-up call on the government to act quickly to improve lake transport.Former President Rawlings also expressed his deepest of condolences to the bereaved families. He wondered why a pontoon that had been saved from sinking by the rural folk with their meagre resources had been abandoned to sink at a repair shop where it was towed. The former President called for an in-depth investigation into the sinking of the pontoon. “The Ministries of Transport and Food and Agriculture must not allow this to pass un-investigated,” the former President stated.Visit Former President Rawlings’ blog site - http://jjrawlings.wordpress.com
