About 200 houses located within the enclave of the Achimota Golf Club and Kissieman in Accra are to be demolished following instructions from the authorities of the Achimota School who are claiming ownership of the piece of land.
The land, which ownership is also being contended by the Owoo Family of Accra, who sold those parcels of land to the residents, was used by the school authorities for farming activities some years ago.
Residents of the area, known as Golf City Residents, told Asempa News that persistent request to compensate the school for the land they occupied have not yielded any positive result as they are bent on demolishing the houses.
Last Monday October 19, the school authorities accompanied by police and military escorts visited the area and served them with caution notice -Produce Permit - on their buildings.
Among some of the residents of the Golf City include a cousin of former President Kufuor, ex-black star player Derrick Boateng, a church building belonging to the Lighthouse Chapel International, Champion Divine Clinic, the Pure Fire Ministries, a former Minister of Education in the Kufuor administration Papa Owusu Ankomah and a cousin of 2008 Presidential Candidate of the Convention Peoples Party Dr. Papa Kwesi Ndoum among several other high profile personalities.
Speaking to Asempa News, a resident by name Reginald indicated that some of the residents are ready to pay any compensation that the school authorities may demand. He indicated that their entire livelihoods depended on the investment made on the houses they have built.
Information reaching Asempa News indicates that barring any unforeseen circumstances, the intended demolition exercise will take place over the weekend.
