A High Court in Kumasi has ruled in favour of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council after a group of caterers engaged during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration filed a suit seeking an injunction to disengage them.
This means pupils in schools benefiting from government’s feeding programme could once again be enjoying their meals starting Friday.
The Ashanti Regional Coordinator of the School Feeding Programme (SFP), Ophelia Antwi Boasiako said heads of schools should cooperate with caterers to ensure the smooth resumption of work.
About 67% of caterers protested the abrogation of their contracts and dragged the Ashanti Regional Minister and his deputy, the Kumasi mayor and the district municipal chief executives to court.
The High Court presided over by Justice G.K. Debrah, placed an interim injunction on the regional coordinating council and other respondents from engaging new caterers.
At the court hearing on Thursday, the court dismissed the suit and ordered the old caterers to stay away from the programme. It however ordered payment of full salary to the old caterers and a refund of all expenses made.
