Former Chief of Staff, Mr Kwadwo Mpiani who was also the chairman of the National Planning Committee that supervised the Ghana @50 celebrations has cautioned that the “attitude of looking at everybody with suspicion will not move the nation forward.” He was speaking at the Ghana @50 Commission of Inquiry where he took his turn as a witness to explain some of the activities that went on during the celebrations and the reasons for them. According to Mr Mpiani, “a society which looks at everybody with suspicion, a society that wants to pull everybody down, a society which does not think of tomorrow” will end up being in trouble. He further explained that when he wanted to enter into politics his grandmother advised him that “whatever you do, know that there will always be a tomorrow. "Then I asked her why and she said because tomorrow you will always account for what you have done and also what you don’t want others to do to you tomorrow, don’t do it to others today.” Consequently, Mr Mpiani warned that “our society should know there is always a tomorrow. This attitude of being pulled down, this attitude of looking at everybody with suspicion, my Lord, cannot, I’m afraid, move this nation forward." Agreeing with Mr. Mpiani, Justice Douse, Chairman of the commission of inquiry, said “I hope the press which is leading the campaign of vilification in this country has heard you well.” Meanwhile, Mr Mpiani pointed out he is not against holding public officials accountable for their stewardship but was quick to add that "when we give people jobs to do, we should have at least faith and trust in them.” By: Dorcas Efe Mensah/myjoyonline.com/Ghana
