Two men suspected to be part of six armed robbers have been shot dead by Police in the Western Region when they hijacked a car containing GH¢250,000, meant to pay cocoa farmers in East Nzema.Director of Police Public Relation DSP Kwesi Ofori who confirmed the incident to Joy News said three of the accomplices have been arrested, whilst the sixth person escaped with a gunshot wound to his leg.According to him, the robbers after trailing the vehicle from Accra intercepted it in Axim Akropong but were stopped by a vigilant community group who mounted a road block and alerted the Axim and Nzema police.On arrival, the robbers according to DSP Ofori opened fire, forcing the police to return fire culminating in the death of the two armed robbers. Several of the civilians were also said to have sustained gun shot wounds.The three are said to be in lawful custody whilst the amount remains safe with the police.The police have begun a hunt for the robber who escaped. The Western Regional Police Commander DCOP Mahama Hamidu said it will not be long for him to be arrested.He has however criticized the companies who were behind the transportation of the money for failing to alert the police before embarking on their mission.Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
