Veterinarians in the country are asking government to put their salaries at par with other health sector workers.
The Ghana Veterinary Medical Association says its members deserve far more than they earn. This follows earlier increases in the salaries and allowances of doctors and nurses in the last few months.
In an interview with Joy News on Thursday, president of the association, Dr Kwesi Darkwa, said veterinarians have the same training as other doctors and are exposed to greater risks than most health workers.
He said the salary disparity is a dampener of morale and affects their work. He suggested the current situation was an insult to members of the association and urged government to immediately take action.
Meanwhile Employment Minister Stephen Amoanor Kwaw says doctors in the country must be content with the 10-percent salary increase recently given them.
Mr Amoanor who was briefing Parliament on Thursday on salary increments for health workers said the adjustments are satisfactory and must be able to cushion doctors in the face of the current economic situation.
