The Ghana Registered Nurses Association wants health authorities to consider their requests for a new dress code. This is because their uniforms have now been taken over by professionals in other fields such as caterers and laundry workers.Nurses have traditionally been identified by their uniforms which come in different colours to distinguish their ranks. It could be the green and white attire, pink or plain white. The President of the Association Alice Asare-Allotey, however, says their white uniforms are now being used by caterers and laundry workers, making it difficult to identify nurses.“Some of them even put on white camp boots and so when they are doing certain things which are not in conformity with our ethics, somebody will think they are nurses,” Mrs Asare-Allotey lamented.“So we want them (authorities) to give us our dress code with clear name tags so the client will know who is handling him or her – whether the one is doing well so that we can reward. At the same time if the [person] is not doing well we can punish.”The nurses also want government to expedite action on a pay rise promised them some two years ago.Source: Joy News/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
