President John Evans Atta Mills has sent a congratulatory message to His Eminence Peter Cardinal Appiah-Turkson on his elevation as the President of the Vatican Peace and Justice Council, describing the honour as one “not only for Ghana but also to all Africans and people of African descent everywhere.”
“As you can expect, news of your appointment was spontaneously greeted with joy and profound respect by Ghanaians not only because it follows on your distinguished achievements in the Church and in academia, but especially because your expected services in the establishment of peace and justice among peoples everywhere are noble goals equally cherished by all of us at this time of our nation’s development.
“In that regard, I have no doubt that Ghanaians will, through their prayers, commit your noble thoughts and endeavours into the hands of the Almighty in order that the Vatican Council of Peace and Justice may, through its deliberations and activities, help bring a better world to mankind irrespective of our nationality, race, religion or political affiliation.
“May God continue to richly bless you and your invaluable contributions.
“Accept, Your Eminence, the assurance of my best wishes and consideration”, the statement said.
