Police in Bawku have mounted a search for the two gunmen who allegedly shot and missed a man last Friday morning around Azanga, a suburb of the municipality.
The assailants shot and missed their target for whom they had laid ambush.
Narrating the incident to the media Moro Gazele, (the victim) said on Friday morning when he was going to do what he said has been his daily routine at the cattle market, on his way he saw two armed men on a motorbike, sensing danger he speed off with his bike while the armed men gave him a hot chase and shot indiscriminately, injuring a passer-by in the process.
He lamented that luck was on his side as he escaped unhurt to the Bawku police station to seek refuge.
Many people who also heard the gun shot run helter-skelter for their lives, and as a result, there was a complete silence in the streets of the municipality with many filled with fear to come outside.
The security personnel were yet to ascertain the reason for Friday’s shooting incident.
The Bawku divisional police commander, DCOP Cushman Awumeshie, called on the residents to exercise restraint and give the security institutions the time to investigate the incidents.
Bawku has been notorious for recurring ethnic, chieftaincy and political violence, but some residence express optimism that the lasting conflict will come to an end.
