The widely expected increase in transport fares has been announced by Road Transport Operators.
The new fares will be effective June 22 2015. The increases range from 10p to 30cedis depending on the distance and type of transport.
GPRTU had ruled out increases in transport fares following a 9% increase in petroleum prices on May.
The Union said it was targeting June to effect increment as part of an agreement with government to increase fares twice in a year.
Petrol prices has since the May increase gone up further by 4% this June.Petrol which was increased from ȼ13.70.00 to ȼ15.00 in May 2015 has since been increased in June.
In a statement signed by General Secretary of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) Stephen Okudzeto, the union attributed the hike in fares to increase of the prices of fuel, the cost of vehicles and spare parts
