A 34-year-old quantity surveyor, Mr. Isaac Atasige, has declared his intention to contest as the Upper East Regional Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking to the GNA in an interview in Bolgatanga, the aspirant said the position he was contesting for was key for the party to win future elections, since the youth formed the majority of the population of Ghana.
"We cannot give such important position to any ordinary person especially now that we are in opposition. We need somebody who is competent and capable of working hard to persuade more people to the party," he stressed.
Sharing his experience, he said he was a leading member of the Tertiary Students Confederation of the NPP when he was a student at Kumasi Polytechnic in 1997.
Mr. Atasige said: "I also moved from door-to-door with other party executives to communities in the region campaigning during past elections and contributed resources to the activities of the party."
"I am prepared now to parade myself for the Regional Youth Organiser position," he said.
Mr. Atasige said when given the nod, he would work tireless together with the constituency executives and ward executives to bring the youth under one umbrella to constantly embark upon massive campaigns in all parts of the region particularly second cycle and tertiary institutions.
He entreated all party members particularly those in the region to put the interest of the party ahead of their personal ambitions and come together to focus solely on how the party could capture power in the 2012 elections.
